Thin eyebrows sure made their statement in the '90s.
I wouldn't call the pencil-thin trend the most flattering, yet I must admit some women really knew how to pull it off.
And while this throwback style is making somewhat of a comeback (cover of Vogue counts, right?), many of us struggle with thinning eyebrows not for the purpose of being fashionable.
And it truly can “surprise” you without warning… At least it was my story. Almost overnight I noticed my eyebrows getting thinner & at first I couldn't understand the possible reason.
What causes eyebrows to start thinning?
As with all types of hair loss, there could be a plethora of reasons your eyebrows may begin to thin.
Apart from the obvious over-plucking or over-waxing, there are a number of other causes, such as thyroid disorders or hormone issues that impact eyebrow fullness adversely.
Unfortunately, many women also suffer from eyebrow thinning as a consequence of chemotherapy. So many of your have shared your incredibly beautiful yet challenging stories with me and I'm so glad our products could help many, too.
Generally speaking, probably most common reason behind eyebrow thinning is simply getting older.
It's natural and absolutely normal as our estrogen, collagen, melanin, magnesium (et cetera) levels decline which affects the hair growth cycle and the structure of hair follicles.
Can you prevent it?
In my opinion, the best type of treatment is always prevention.
Joey Healy, Celebrity Brow Stylist and Founder of his eponymous eyebrow studio and brand, says to approach this as you would a preventative skincare routine.
He recommends drinking plenty of water, getting a good amount of sleep, and eating a balanced diet with a enough of iron as well as foods high in good fats (omega 3-6-9's are key).
I would also say that the way you deal with stress affects thinning eyebrows as well. Take enough breaks from work, include positive/mindfulness daily practices into your life and have a circle of friends to surround yourself with.
Another tip I stand by is topical treatments, but more on that under the next headline…
What's the best treatment for thinning eyebrows?
First and foremost, the most important thing to do is is understand the root cause of hair thinning.
I'm only an advocate of treatments for thinning eyebrows due to ageing and am not a doctor or even beautician. So I can only recommend what's worked for me and hundreds of other women that are using Rumi Cosmetiques products. Just a little disclaimer.
Put the tweezers down…
Or at least don't take them everywhere you go, haha (guilty)!
This is obvious, but you can't promote hair growth if you're tempted to pluck out strays as they grow out.
Instead, let them grow out and disguise any patchy areas with make-up. Our InstantBrow+ Eyeliner is perfect for that!
Use a brow-boosting topical treatment!
Oh, this is my faaavooourrriiiiittteee!!!!!
Find a product filled with ingredients safe for the eye area that are known to promote healthy hair growth, such as keratin, peptides, or soy protein.
You know I absolutely LOVE our BrowCare+ Eyebrow Serum, it has done the most for my nearly non-existent eyebrows.
And I couldn't believe my eyes it truly made them thicker after the age of 50!
Its biotin & peptide-infused formula stimulates keratin production, increases the life cycle of your brow hair, retains their natural pigmentation, and promotes their regrowth, making your eyebrow hair appear stronger, thicker, and less prone to fallout or breakage.
I can swear by this holy-grail of mine!
BrowCare+ has a selection of thoroughly picked vitamins and natural extracts that work effectively to strengthen the roots of your eyebrow hair and encourage long-lasting moisture retention, resulting in a compellingly full eyebrow appearance.
Being specifically formulated for sensitive skin, BrowCare+ Serum has a weightless consistency that won't irritate or itch which is super important for me.
Massage the brow area?!
What the hell you might think and trust me, I had the same reaction. But let me explain…
Every hair is connected to a tiny blood vessel, so stimulating blood flow to the brow area can help encourage healthy hair growth.
Jared Bailey, Global Brow Expert for Benefit Cosmetics advises to give your brow bone a micro massage with your fingertips by gently using your finger tips to tap over each brow for about 30 seconds.
I can also add that microneedling has helped my eyebrows too, especially paired with the BrowCare+ serum as it gets absorbed into the deeper layers of my skin.
Avoid highly acidic skincare.
Any type of exfoliant will slough away dead skin cells to reveal brighter, newer skin — which is great for achieving a natural glow.
However, doing so will negatively impact hair growth, so avoid applying these types of products near the brow area.
All in all, eyebrows do get thinner as we age, yet there ARE many things we can do to tackle those stumpy hairs!
My winning duo is BrowCare+ with InstantBrow+ and I strongly believe that my eyelashes still have some unrevealed potential in them, haha!
I advise getting the Brow Duo Set to save some money on these products.
Our sets are here to let you try or use our products for less of a price and more of an effect. Sets always deliver better results so it's a win-win situation.
I'll talk to you soon! Let me know what's your eyebrow situation and what products you love in the comments below!
