Hi there, ladies!
Kate here, the founder of Rumi Cosmetiques.
The Rumi Blog is something that holds great significance for me. It's a place where I can write my heart out and read your comments, where I can share my thoughts and best beauty practices, knowing you will welcome those with open arms and open hearts. 💕
And guess what? I've got a treasure trove of secrets, beauty industry insider tips, and a few new thoughts I'm excited to share with you! 🌟
This guide has been refreshed for 2026, inspired by your feedback and the many wonderful messages we've received from our incredible community of 40+ women. I've also taken a good look at where brow trends have been heading this year — and woven in the bits that genuinely flatter mature faces (and gently set aside the ones that don't!).
Why Brows Matter More Than Ever
Our eyebrows, much like our hair, undergo transformations during different phases of our life. Whether natural occurrences or thanks to us. Who remembers those thin plucked-out lines in the '90s?! 🌟
With the passage of time, a comparable change occurs naturally. Eyebrows tend to become thinner and develop an irregular, patchy appearance with small areas of sparse or uneven hair, which can make us feel like our brows are in a constant state of disarray. Yeah, I know how that feels! 😩
But why are eyebrows so crucial, you might wonder?
Well-groomed eyebrows play a vital role in enhancing your appearance as you age. They provide structure and definition to your face, akin to how a blazer complements your outfit and makes you look that bit more put together. 💕
Regrettably, many of us went overboard with tweezing in the past, while others contend with sparse, misshapen, or thinning brows due to thyroid changes, perimenopause, or menopause.
It's worth noting that eyebrows naturally transform with age — it's completely normal!
Even iconic figures like Brooke Shields, known for her full brows, have adopted more refined and meticulously groomed shapes over the years. 💕

What's Trending for Brows in 2026 (and What to Borrow)
2026 is, quite happily for us, the year of the softer, fuller, natural-looking brow.
The era of the over-drawn, blocky Instagram brow has well and truly gone, and in its place is a more lived-in, gently full shape — closer to how brows look when they're simply healthy and well cared for.
That's wonderful news. But there's a small caveat I want to be honest about: a lot of the "fluffy brow" content you'll see online involves brushing brows straight up and is shown on women in their twenties with naturally dense brows. On thinner, more mature brows, that same technique can actually highlight the gaps rather than disguise them. 😩

So here's how we borrow the trend rather than chase it:
- Aim for soft natural fullness, not theatrical thickness
- Brush hairs up at the inner third only, then gently across for the rest
- Keep the tail neat and slightly tapered — this lifts the eye
- Choose a softer shade than you think you need (more on that below)
Lamination and microblading are also still very much around. Both can be lovely, but at 40+ I'd urge caution: laminated brows can look stark against softer skin, and microblading on thinner, drier skin doesn't always heal as crisply as it does on younger skin.
A good brow gel does most of what lamination promises, with none of the commitment.
Here Are Some Secrets and Tips to Consider...
1. Start Fresh
To rectify over-tweezed or over-waxed brows, you must undergo a rigorous regrowth phase lasting about three months (it was around 6 for me!).
Refrain from plucking any hairs, even those you don't consider part of your brows, especially around the inner corners.
Additionally, taking a quality multivitamin with biotin and zinc could help (consult with your doctor first), as well as using a nourishing eyebrow serum specially formulated to stimulate hair growth.
I would recommend our BrowCare+ Eyebrow Serum as it's the ONLY product that made my own brows become stronger and eventually grow back a bit thicker and more even. 💕
It's specifically designed for us mature women so that no one has to worry about irritation, watering eyes, itching, or your eyes changing colour (I mean… what?!). 💕

2. Reshape and Fill
Correcting brows with an irregular shape might involve straightening and extending the brow line, and it's where make-up can compensate greatly.
For brows missing their outer half or brows that need some extra something in the middle, use products that adhere to bare skin, such as eyebrow pencils, powders, or a tinted gel.
What's great is that you can try these products in the store, and in many beauty halls they even have a make-up artist who can help you completely free of charge — a wonderful opportunity if you're not sure what works best and aren't quite ready to spend money on an individual consultation.
Fill the entire brow with hair-like strokes and remember that keeping it light is essential. Heavy, solid-looking brows tend to add years rather than soften them, which is the opposite of what we're after. 💕
Study some YouTube videos or quick make-up artist tutorials on Instagram to learn the techniques yourself, or meet up with someone who could help in person.

3. Trim and Tame
When trimming your brows, always start conservatively, as you can trim a bit more later if needed. I would suggest consulting with someone who does brows for a living rather than attempting to do the magic yourself.
If you're confident — that's wonderful! But if shaky hands and unwavering confidence are involved, please be gentle. 💞
What you can do safely at home is use a tinted brow gel to tame unruly hairs while adding gentle colour. PowerBrow+ Eyebrow Gel tints even the tiniest hairs (which are usually the lightest in colour too) while holding everything in place — exactly the soft, natural fullness the 2026 brow is all about. 💞
A good eyebrow gel holds great significance in your beauty routine, especially for women over 40. It's like the final brushstroke on a masterpiece. 💞

4. Consider Your Glasses
One of the most frequently mentioned challenges from our community? Eyebrows and eyeglasses! Whether you wear readers or full-time prescription lenses, the shape and placement of your frames can dramatically impact the look of your brows.
Tip: Make sure your brows are slightly above or aligned with the top of your frames — not hidden beneath them. This helps maintain facial balance and ensures your eyes stay expressive and open.
If you're changing glasses, try frames with a subtle lift at the outer corners, like a soft cat-eye. It gives a natural "brow lift" effect and complements fuller or more arched brow styles beautifully. 💕
5. Go a Shade Softer
A common mistake I see (and made myself!) is going too dark with brow colour as we age. While we may have had deep, bold brows in our youth, softer hues often look more flattering and youthful later in life.
Instead of matching your natural hair exactly, go one shade lighter for brunettes and one shade darker for blondes. Taupes, soft greys, and warm browns tend to look more natural and less harsh on mature skin.
This is exactly why PowerBrow+ Eyebrow Gel comes in three carefully chosen shades — so you can find the one that genuinely flatters your skin and hair now, not the colour your brows used to be twenty years ago:
- Latte — our lightest shade, perfect for blondes, those with greying or silver hair, and brunettes wanting a much softer, more diffused look. If you usually reach for Mocha, give Latte a try — you may surprise yourself. 💕
- Mocha — our mid-tone, beautifully versatile for light-to-medium brunettes and anyone with warm undertones. It's the most "natural mature brow" of the three.
- Espresso — our deepest shade, ideal for darker brunettes and those with naturally dark hair who still want definition without that harsh, drawn-on look.
A small note from experience: many of us instinctively reach for the darkest shade because that's what our brows once were. Try going one step lighter than your instinct — it's almost always more flattering. 💞

A Gentle Word to End On
While we can do a lot with make-up, brow restoration is a gradual process, akin to diet, exercise, and good skincare. With patience and commitment, you'll ultimately achieve the results you're hoping for. I'm sure of it. 💕
In the end, remember: your eyebrows are like the frame of a beautiful painting — they highlight your unique features and add character to your face.
Embrace the journey of perfecting your brows, even when it becomes frustrating or you're not quite sure what you're doing.
Our brows are sisters, not twins — and that's perfectly as it should be.
With love and full brows,
xoxo Kate 💞
